Biography

Hailing from the sleepy town of Orrville, Ohio, they have an impressive repertoire in a short time. Within the first three months of practicing together Emily Irene (lead vocals) and Nathan Fertig (guitar/vocals) crafted together a 6 song demo (Brace Yourself EP). Later, they were joined by their friends Hudson Taylor (bass/vocals), Josh Fink (guitar/vocals) and Karl Wendel (drums) and did not wasted any time to make music that explodes onstage with energy and passion. Now, the curtain is rising and the stage is set for these five unlikely individuals to answer to their calling. Their newest release (May 2009), “The Heart and Its Hope” EP includes the energetic single “We Were Made To,” a song that Yes FM reviewers call “a fresh sound for this period of time.” Scoring a slot at the renowned Christian music festival Alive in June of 2009, has given the band the publicity needed to take them to the next level. Touring the tri-state region has built them dedicated fanbase both online and in concert. With sales and media attention rising, it will not be long until the depth and range of their talents are unveiled for eager ears worldwide.

Biography

Mayday Parade arose from the merger of two popular Tallahassee local bands, Kid Named Chicago and Defining Moment, whose combination helped the emo-pop unit amass a quick buzz around its hometown scene. The sextet was initially comprised of vocalist Derek Sanders, vocalist/guitarist Jason Lancaster, bassist/vocalist Jeremy Lenzo, drummer Jake Bundrick, and guitarists Alex Garcia and Brooks Betts. After playing shows on the 2005 Warped Tour, along with sporadic gigs alongside bands like Armor for Sleep, the Rocket Summer, the Starting Line, and Emery, the band hooked up with Fearless Records in August 2006 and released its debut EP, Tales Told by Dead Friends, three months later. Lancaster left Mayday Parade in March 2007 and formed Go Radio; meanwhile, Mayday Parade signed with Atlantic Records and issued their first album without Lancaster, Anywhere But Here, in late 2009.

The Perfect Mistake:

Biography

Cartel’s earnest brand of emo-pop emerged out of Atlanta in 2004, when vocalist Will Pugh, bassist Ryan Roberts, drummer Kevin Sanders, and guitarists Joseph Pepper and Nic Hudson released an initial EP that caught the ear of the California-based Militia Group label. Militia signed Cartel, and the Ransom EP reappeared under Militia’s guidance in 2004. The label then released Chroma, Cartel’s full-length debut, in September 2005. The album cracked into the Billboard Top 200, as bloggers championed the band and the video for “Honestly” found moderate airtime on MTV. The majors noticed all of this activity, and in early 2006, Cartel inked a deal with Epic. Touring continued through the rest of the year, as the band opened for acts like New Found Glory and the Starting Line. That same year, however, Roberts decided to leave the lineup. He was replaced by Jeff Lett, who joined just in time for the band’s 2006 Warped Tour dates.

Gotta Get Out:

That’s My Jam:

Biography

Hailing from the dirty southland of Kentucky, Nineball is a rock and roll explosion with catchy lyrics, and a cataclysmic stage show that’s sure to have you dancing. Or at least nodding your head obnoxiously. And with guitar parts like a shotgun blast to the heart, and creative drum parts–they’re sure to pump up any my space, or close-to-you venue. They’re disc is great, but they’re even better in-person. Hair, guitars, and the occasion pick will fling. Luke can’t help but to throw his bass around his body and yell as loud as he can right to the front row, while Joe struts in a Mick Jagger-like manner with his guitar and swings around his mic as he sings. Vibrant music, and active musicians do mix well! If they play anywhere close, you’d be certifiable to miss them. So grab a few friends, and stop by their show to stand front-row and tap your toes to the greatest show on Earth. Be sure to lean in close and take a listen–just watch your head for guitars. Their debut album “Millionaires” is due to drop this fall. There’s really something for everyone on this record. It’s a straight forward rock record, with it’s dancey moments, pop moments, and believe or not it’s hardcore moments. With a title like ‘millionaires’ there’s a certain level of satire to a vast part of the record. For example the first track off the record entitled “All About the Money” clearly showcases the bands sarcastic view of the music industry, given their Christian roots. Other tracks such as “God save us all”, and “Among Ash-heaps and Millionaires” show the band’s humble side.

Biography

The Emberlight is a high energy Christian rock band with layer of pop sensibility and a passion for today’s youth. With driven guitars, interesting chord progressions, woven melodies and countermelodies and a pop sensibility, the music is a holiday for your ears. Stylistically the writing draws influence from American rockers Foo Fighters, Switchfoot, pop rockers Weezer, Fall Out Boy, All American Rejects, and the intelligence of Relient K.

Biography

Faded Cadence are a band from Birmingham, UK. Forming in late 2008, they continue to prove that although only being sixteen years of age, they can still achieve something with their music. The band fuse acoustic chords with unique vocals, breaking out of the generic trend in the area. They still don’t have a label, but I don’t think they will have a problem finding one.

Biography

“Loud and personal,” is one of the ways that lead singer/guitarist Nathan Hussey describes All Get Out. Generally when a band is self-described as loud, imagery of guitars propelling distortion and mood over the audience is the resonance to dwell on and personal is not often the conjoined description. Loud has always been the cryptic way to say a band likes to hide behind blankets of fuzz and hard to decipher symbolisms that keep the players of the song at restraining order distance from the audience. With All Get Out nothing is hidden; everything is personal; and loud.

All of life’s ups, downs, triumphs, ditches, and valleys are in All Get Out’s self titled EP. Songs like, “Come My Way”, are filled with hopeful guitars and melodies than swoon and swim in a way that are not to be forgotten. And then a song like “Wasting All My Breath” holds nothing back while dealing with death and assigning blame. These quick changes of from hoping for the serene to dealing with sucker punches that come wrapped as gifts is what life is about, and that is what All Get Out is about—the mess of life. Being personal is never a clean paint by numbers affair. It’s about the chase, the fall, and getting back up without checking on your own cuts.

Biography

I think it’s the rawness of indie music that continues to amaze me every time I hear He is We. The band does not even have a full album yet, but they are already making a lot of noise. They were voted one of the top bands on purevolume in 2009. The setup is simple, Rachel on vocals and Trevor on the guitar. The music is not anything genius, it’s rather simple, yet extremely captivating. The band has quite a few tracks out that were released as a collection of old demos. You can’t get a physical copy, but you can head over to their website and download them. I’m excited to see where they are going next.

Biography

Like From Autumn to Ashes, Nora, and Hopesfall, Emery combines an alternative pop/rock foundation with elements of screamo and melodic hardcore. A Christian theme also runs throughout the band’s music, which often examines the contrasts between Heaven/Hell, melody/brutality, and conventional singing/guttural screaming. Formed in South Carolina in 2001, the band originally included the talents of recent college graduates Toby Morrell (vocals, guitar), Matt Carter (guitar), Joel Green (bass), Devin Shelton (guitar), Josh Head (keyboards), and Seth Studley (drums). After weighing their options, Emery’s members decided that Seattle would be a better environment for a burgeoning band, prompting the group to move westward in September 2001.

Once established in the Emerald City, Emery signed with the Seattle-based Tooth & Nail label, which united them with producer/engineer Ed Rose for the creation of the band’s debut album. The Weak’s End appeared in January 2004, followed by The Question in August 2005. Drummer Seth Studley left before the latter album’s release, however, prompting the group to enlist Dave Powell as his replacement. One year later, bassist Joel Green also left the band, although the bandmates opted to relegate bass duties to guitarists Morrell and Shelton rather than admit a new member. I’m Only a Man arrived in 2007 and signaled a new direction for the band, whose newfound use of synthesizers and increasingly melodic singing contrasted with the harsher sounds of Emery’s previous work. One year later, however, the musicians reverted to their original sound with the While Broken Hearts Prevail EP, while 2009’s …In Shallow Seas We Sail proved to be a mix of both styles.
